Jarum village is one of the names of villages in the Bayat sub-district, Klaten district, which borders Gunung Kidul. Desa Jarum is a village where most people have a livelihood related to batik, both as batik producers, batik laborers, batik traders, batik suppliers, etc. and can be said to be one of the villages producing batik in Klaten district.
The location is if from Ringin Banyuripan, then towards the south, you will find a Jarum tourist village gate and you will find many trees, which are said to be an investment for old days, remembering that the trees will grow for years with quite expensive prices.
Most of the batik produced in the Jarum village is written batik with relatively cheap prices of approximately 160 thousand per sheet. If you have entered the Jarum village then you will find a house or a board that sells batik, so if you want to buy, you just have to choose which one is suitable if it is not suitable in one store, you can move to another store that is relatively close.
Besides batik in the village, Jarum also produced Batik Kulit. Usually the craftsmen get raw material for leather sheets that cost around Rp 125,000 per one sheet of skin. To make a bag, 2 pieces of skin are needed. Then the bags are sold at various prices starting from Rp. 400,000 and usually orders from Jogja.
In addition to the batik industry in Jarum village, there are also people who work as stone cobblers. By using a simple tool like; crowbar, hammer, puncher, and other traditional tools so craftsmen can usually make 3 medium sized stone mortars. The craftsmen usually take rocks from Gunungkidul, which have more quality stones than from Merapi. And there are many more potentials in Jarum village such as screen printing industry, brick making industry, jacket industry, website creation, etc.
