Karanganyar Regency is one of the names of districts in Central Java Province which has an area of 800.20 square kilometers with telephone area code 0271. The administrative center of Karanganyar Regency is in Karanganyar City. Karanganyar Regency in the north is bordered by Sragen Regency, in the east by Ngawi Regency and Magetan Regency (East Java), in the south by Wonogiri Regency, and in the west it is Sukoharjo Regency, Surakarta City and Boyolali Regency. Karanganyar Regency has an exclave sub-district located in 3 regions, namely Sukoharjo Regency, Boyolali Regency, and Surakarta City, namely Colomadu District. Karanganyar Regency has a Motto, which is Karanganyar Tenteram (Quiet, Quiet, Neat, Safe, Prosperous). The official flora of Karanganyar Regency is Duku Mateseh while the official fauna is ivory starch.
The name Karanganyar according to some sources comes from the name Padukuhan in the village. Raden Mas Said (Mangkunagara I) gave the name Karanganyar because in that place, Raden Mas Said gained stability with the new agreement in Javanese language, meaning new to become a ruler after eating the revelations of the palace in the form of a owl.
