Mount Merapi, which is located in 4 districts, namely the southern side slope is located in Sleman Regency, the west side is in Magelang Regency, the north and east side are in Boyolali District, Southeast Side and Klaten Regency. Mount Merapi is known as one of the most erupted volcanoes. The height of Mount Merapi is not up to 3,000 meters above sea level. The hiking trail is not too long but quite steep. The natural scenery on Mount Merapi is actually not too special. Since from New Selo or the starting point of the climb, you will only find views of the local plantations that have often been found below. Mount Merapi does not have a beautiful meadow view like Mount Merbabu. And also there is no edelweiss flower
Mount Merapi at its peak has never been overgrown with vegetation because of its high activity. Plant species on the top of typical Javanese mountain alpina species such as Javanese Edelweis and Rhododendron. Somewhat down there will be found bamboo forests and tropical mountain plants. The tropical rainforest in the mountains in the southern part of Mount Merapi is a place for cultivation of one of the endemic forms of orchids Vanda tricolor ‘Merapi’ which has been rare. On the slopes of Merapi below 1,000 meters is the place of origin of ‘Pondoh’ salak and ‘Nglumut’ salak.
