The Second Part

The second part is located south of the artificial lake immediately and is a relatively most intact part than the other parts. The part that is maintained is the building while the gardens & gardens in this section are no longer left. At present this part is the main part that is visited by many tourists.

Gedhong Gapura Hageng
Gedhong Gapura Hageng is the main gate of the garden of the kings of his time. Previously Taman Sari faced west & extended to the east. This gate is in the westernmost part of the remaining palace water site. The east side of the main door can still be seen while the west side is covered by dense settlements. The gate that has several spaces & 2 levels is decorated with reliefs of birds and flowers that show the year of completion of the Taman Sari construction, namely in 1691 Java or about 1765 AD.

Gedhong Lopak-lopak
In the eastern part of the ancient main gate of Taman Sari, there was an octagonal courtyard. In the middle of this page stood a two-story tower called “Gedhong Lopak-lopak”, and another version called it gopok. The door on the east side of the octagonal courtyard is one of the gates to Umbul Binangun.

Umbul Pasiraman
Umbul Pasiraman or Umbul Binangun is a bathing pool intended for the Sultan, the empress, and the wives (garwo ampil), as well as the daughters of the king. Umbul Pasiraman Complex is surrounded by high walls. To get to this place 2 gates have been provided, one on the east side and one on the west side. In the Umbul Pasiraman complex there will be found 3 ponds decorated with springs shaped like mushrooms. Around the pool there is a giant flower pot.

The building on the northernmost side is a resting place and also changes clothes for princesses & wives (concubines). To the south there will be found a pool called “Umbul Muncar”. There is a pier-like road and is the boundary between this pond and a pond in the south called “Blumbang Kuras”. South of Blumbang Kuras will be found a building with a tower in the center. The west wing building is a place to change clothes and the east wing is used for Sultan’s rest. The tower in the center, reportedly used by the Sultan to see his wife & daughter who were taking a bath and for those whose most naked body was most impressive, would be called by the sultan to the tower. To the south of the building will be found a pool called “Umbul Binangun”, a bathing pool that is reserved for the Sultan & the Empress only. At that time, besides the Sultan, only women were allowed to enter this complex. This may be because all women (consort, wife (concubine) and sultan’s daughters) who enter the sari garden must be undressed or naked, therefore besides the woman is forbidden by the sultan to enter Taman Sari.

Gedhong Sekawan
In the eastern part of umbul pasiraman you will find an octagonal courtyard. The building was named “Gedhong Sekawan”. The place is used by the Sultan’s rest and his family.

Gedhong Gapuro Stage
In the eastern part of Gedhong Sekawan a building called Gedhong Gapura Panggung will be found. Formerly in the building there will be found 4 dragon snake statues but now only 2 pieces remain. Gedhong Ganggung Panggung is a symbol of the year of the construction of Taman Sari, namely in 1684 Java or about 1758 AD. Besides that, in Gedhong Gapura Panggung there will also be found decorative reliefs such as Gedhong Gapura Hageng. On the east side of the Gedhong Gapura Panggung building is currently the entrance to the Taman Sari site.

Gedhong Temanten
In the southeast and northeast of the Gapuro Panggung gate there will be a building named Gedhong Temanten. Gedhong Temanten used to be used as a place for security guards for duty and resting places.
